5 Signs You Need a New HVAC System

HVAC systemAs winter ends and we move into spring, it may be time to take a look at your HVAC system. The transition from needing heat to requiring cool air may be too much if your system is old or starting to malfunction.
You will learn about five signs that you need a new HVAC system, so you can catch small issues before they become giant problems.

#1: It Sounds Different Than Usual

Most HVAC systems make some sort of sound, like a humming or a vibrating sound. However, most of the time, these are quiet noises that shouldn’t be too disturbing.
If you are suddenly hearing loud clunks or clanking, you should get your system checked out. The first few times this happens, it may just need a minor repair. However, the more often this occurs, the more you will want to think about getting a new system altogether.

#2: Little to No Airflow From Vents

There are many reasons that airflow may become poor, and most of them are not large problems. Some of the quick fixes for this include a slow fan or extreme dirt.
Occasionally, restricted airflow is a sign that you need a new system. This is particularly true if your heating and cooling system is old or too big.

#3: You Have New or Excessive Allergies

If it has been a while since your unit has been cleaned, it is possible that your heating and cooling are actually causing an allergy flare up.
Allergies are caused by contaminants in the air, but that does not only happen in nature. It can also be a problem in your home if you have a large build-up of dust or other pollutants.

#4: You Have Already Repaired It This Year

As heating and cooling systems get older, more parts need to be fixed or replaced. At first, these repairs might be an undertaking you are willing to endure.
But as the years go by, your unit is not getting any younger. At this point, you will want to consider just getting a new HVAC system. Repairs will become more expensive as larger and older parts break, and you will need to decide when it makes sense for you to purchase a new one.

#5: You Get Higher Energy Bills

In the winter and summer months, a higher energy bill is common because you are running your heating and cooling system more consistently. But this can also be a sign of an underperforming HVAC unit.
You know better than anyone how much your energy bills adjust month to month, so use your best judgment. If you think something seems excessive, it doesn’t hurt to get your unit looked at.
